  1. Yohan V Says:

JIMI HENDRIX didn’t do COCAINE . The girl living with Nicole Brown Simpson did COCAINE

Cocaine is by Cream also and I’m fairly certain Hendrix never played it (mabey live but I can’t find the video). The riff of sunshine of your love and cocaine sound nothing alike except for the dit dit dot dit, but this is used in so many melodies I’m sure you can trace it back before Bach.

It could perhaps be because Cocaine was written by Eric Clapton, lead singer/guitarist for Cream. Sorry, it wasn’t by Jimi.

  4. lottsaink Says:

Jimi never did the song cocaine. If you check you will see that the song came along after Jimi died.

    Jimi never played Cocaine!
    Eric Clapton did.
Anyway the riff is similar but played in different key and rhythm.
Sunshine…. was written way before Cocaine , and J.J.Cale wrote it.

first off, Cocaine is by Eric Clapton, and he was also in Cream so maybe thats why they sound alike

  7. Peekablue Says:

The two are a little similar but not exactly alike. By the way, the song Cocaine (written by J.J. Cale) is performed by Eric Clapton and was released in 1977, which is several years after Hendrix died.
Eric Clapton was in the band Cream for a short time (2 years).

  8. Jeff H Says:

I can see that there is a similarity, but I wouldn’t say exactly like…

Hendrix was a fan of Clapton, and he performed Sunshine of Your Love as a setlist staple throughout his 1968 and 1969 concerts.

Cocaine was written and released on the album Troubadour by J.J. Cale in 1976, and recorded by Clapton on his 1977 album Slowhand. Hendrix died in 1970 – 6 years before Cocaine

  9. Em is for ily Says:

because eric clapton wrote and performed cocaine and eric clapton was in cream

  10. Montag Says:

Okay… Like others said, it was not Jimi Hendrix who did Cocaine. I don’t believe it was written at that time.

J.J. Cale wrote the original version of Cocaine. It was covered by Eric Clapton about one year later during his solo career. Clapton was from Cream; he was the guitarist.

Now as for the songs sounding alike: I personally think you think the beginning of the riffs sound similar only. Other than that, there isn’t much similarity.

    no rip offs here.

    1. Jimi didn’t sing cocaine, it was Eric Clapton (Cocaine was written by J.J. Cale)
    2. Sunshie of Your Love is by Cream and Eric Clapton was the guitarist (Jack Bruce-bass Ginger Baker-drums)

  12. funkybass4ever Says:

Jimi Hendrix did Cocaine but not the song if you know what I mean

  13. Paul B Says:

Sunshine of your love performed by Cream on the album Disraeli Gears released November 1967. Jimi Hendrix died in September 1970..The song cocaine was written by J.J. Cale and was released on his first album called Naturally in 1971…Eric Clapton covered the song several years later and is the best known version…
