If by best, you mean gut-wrenching, hard-drinking, two-fisted, punch in the stomach vocals, I think the 6 minute version of SPOONFUL by Cream, with vocals courtesy of Jack Bruce would be my first choice. And then maybe the 8 minute version of One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.
Could you imagine a duet of Janis and Jack on that song ??
Excellent tough question…just can’t pick one best rock vocal or song of all time, too many going way back to the beginning of rock and roll…a few of my favorite vocals and their songs as the list would be too long…
Subdivisions Rush…Getty Lee…
Cold As Ice Foreigner…any song with Lou Gramm’s voice
Open Arms Journey…Steve Perry’s vocals on any one of their songs is fantastic.
Stone Cold Rainbow
Shoot To Thrill AC/DC…Brian Johnson
Perfect Strangers Deep Purple
Simple Man – Bad Company (Paul Rodgers)
Gold Dust Woman or Landslide or Silver Springs (Stevie Nicks)
You Are So Beautiful – Joe Cocker
Save Me – Aimee Mann
Grace – Jeff Buckley
Almost Cut My Hair – CSNY (David Crosby)
Going To California – Zep (Robert Plant)
