I want some more artists to listen to – I love old rock and blues-rock, but I’m running out of songs by them!

I don’t want artists who only have one good song – I want their whole discography to be amazing (but if you do know any AMAZING one hit wonders, then say them as well, for example Radar Love)!
My favourite bands/artists are:
AC/DC
Led Zeppelin
The Doors
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Bob Dylan
Black Sabbath
Paul Rodgers/ Free / Bad Company
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Deep Purple
Van Morrison
Aerosmith
Beatles
The Eagles
George Thorogood

Please give me some artists – I would love some more songs to listen to!

I love blues rock stuff too. Here’s a couple good artists:
Eric Clapton – Pretty famous, but you didn’t have him on the list. The best blues rock singer of the last decades.
Bruce Hornsby – Alternates between blues and jazz rock, but its all really good. He’s a very talented piano player. Look for Scenes from the Southside and Spirit Trail for his good blues stuff.
Blues Traveler – Not as blues as one would think, but are still neat with a good sound. Four is their best album.
Tom Waits – Not blues at all, but I like stuff similar to you, and I love Tom Waits. One thing – he is VERY, very out there. It really does take a while to grow on you (like Bob Dylan). Just keep listening – its rewarding in the end. Rain Dogs is a good starting album. Listen to it all the way through a few times before you judge it – its very different, and does take some getting used to.
U2 – Look for their older stuff. Joshua Tree has a lot of blues themes. The Unforgettable Fire is a different, but has a very unique and interesting sound to it. And Bad is the greatest song ever (though I never appreciated it until I saw the live version – its such an emotional song).
Lynyrd Skynrd – A very talented southern-rock blues band. They have some really good blues stuff. I really like them for their blues songs.
Amos Lee – I saw a Dylan concert, and he opened. Not sure if he has many CDs out, but he and his band were VERY good.
Sonic Youth – Again, not blues, but I would recommend it. Daydream Nation is fantastic.
Iron Maiden – A band similar to AC/DC but MUCH better. They didn’t have all the one hit wonders but their albums are MUCH more consistent and they have some great rock songs.
Cream – Eric Clapton’s early band. Disraeli Gears is an amazing album, and Badge is a great song.
Creedence Clearwater Revival – A very good band, with a southern-blues feel to them. Singer has a unique voice.
Allman Brothers Band – also a southern-blues band, but with Duane Allman – the 2nd greatest guitarist of all time (Rolling Stone). Great guitar stuff.
The Kinks – Not blues at all, but one of the great forgotten 60’s bands. Check out The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. They are an amazing band. Also listen to the song Lola – it really got me into them.
The Velvet Underground – Not blues, but a 60’s avant-garde (sp?) band. They take a long time to get used to, but once you do, you love them. They might be hard to get into, but if you like the 60’s stuff then they are a must-have. Give them time – I hated them at first but now they are one of my favorites.
The Rolling Stones – Some good rock and blues. Famous – enough said. Check out Exile on Main Street – one of the best albums ever made.
The Band – A must have for any blues rock fan. Listen to The Band and Music From Big Pink. They are phenominal. Such a great sound, great musicians (they recorded Blonde on Blonde with Dylan). They’re awesome.
The Who – They are very good, one of the defining bands of the 60’s. Start off with Who’s Next, and when you appreciate them, listen to Tommy. Its a rock opera – the entire album was made to tell a story. Its different and out there, but its one of the best. I love it.
This was a very good question – you and me seem to have almost identical tastes. I’m the same way – I like consistent albums, not songs. Check these out, good luck. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Check out Ray LaMontagne. He reminds me a lot of Van Morrison in the 1970s. Also, check out Wilco’s latest album, Sky Blue Sky. Oh, and check out Josh Ritter: people have made a lot of comparisons between him and Dylan and, for once, it’s not just a lot of hype.

  10. Ashley Says:

Try the Goo Goo Dolls…some of their new stuff might be a little too pop for you, but they have some really good older rock/punkish CDs like Superstar Carwash. They have a lot of variety in their music.
