Anyone here a collector of original tape recordings of Sixties Rock ‘N Roll Music?

New Orleans Diva asked:
I’ve been going through the questions regarding music and I didn’t see any questions relating, so I thought I should put it on the table.
I’m trying to locate someone who’d be interested in original reel-to-reel tapes recorded at the Matrix Nightclub in San Francisco during the Sixties. This is before any of the following became famous: Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, and, more.
Would love to connect with an interested party. Anyone here?

If these are the actual original recordings, I’d suggest contacting the record companies who handle the licensing of these groups, as people are always interested in new found early recordings of famous artists. Even if you’re the sole owner of a particular performance, you’d still need their cooperation to issue them. Unless you live in a foreign country, you can’t sell an artist’s work unless you have their permission, or at least the original copy.
If they’re just bootleg copies, odds are someone else has already digitized them and they’re most likely available. Trading bootleg copies of sixties bands was a popular pursuit even before the cassette tape made it easy and wide spread. For this, just search tape trading. Plenty of sites specialize in this. It’ll let you know if they’re really originals, or just someones collection of bootlegs.
